This page began life on August 31, 2018. My initial purpose was to explain and document the anti-Trump conspiracy that began before the presidential election of 2016 and which continues to this day. The anti-Trump conspiracy is part of the broader, left-wing conspiracy to gain permanent control of the central government and to suppress traditional American values. The larger conspiracy involves not only politicians and bureaucrats but also the “elites” in the academy, Big Tech, major corporations, and the media. A key part of the conspiracy was the successful theft of the election of 2020.
The discussions of the anti-Trump conspiracy (Obamagate) and the broader conspiracy in the next two sections are followed by a long and ever-expanding list of related readings. The entries focus on Obamagate until the fall of 2022. The scope of the entries then widens to include items related to the broader conspiracy, principally the corruption of Joe Biden and family and the related attempts to cover up the corrupton.
Obamagate (a.k.a Russiagate and Spygate)
Neither Donald Trump nor anyone acting on his behalf colluded with Russia to influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.
The Obamagate conspiracy was designed to discredit Trump and deny him the presidency. It continued while he was in office, with a coordinated assault by congressional Democrats and media leftists to eject him from the presidency. It has continued since he left office, with the specific aim of preventing him from running or being elected in 2024, and the broader aim of discrediting the GOP and undermining electoral support for GOP candidates.
The entire Obamagate operation is reminiscent of Obama’s role in the IRS’s persecution of conservative non-profit groups. Obama spoke out against “hate groups” and Lois Lerner et al. got the message. Lerner’s loyalty to Obama was rewarded with a whitewash by Obama’s. Department of Justice and FBI.
The conspiracy was instigated by the White House and the Clinton campaign, and executed by the CIA and FBI. There is some speculation (e.g., here) that the CIA instigated the Trump-Russia hoax, but it is more likely that it was instigated by Barack Obama in unrecorded conversations with John Brennan and Hillary Clinton or someone working for her.
As in the case of the IRS operation, Obama probably expressed his “concern” about Russia’s attempt to influence the election. Obama’s “concern” was eagerly seized upon by hyper-partisan members of his administration, including (but not limited to):
- Valerie Jarrett, Obama’s confidante and chief strategist
- CIA Director John (the Red) Brennan (probably Obama’s action officer for the operation)
- Director of National Intelligence James Clapper
- National Security Adviser Susan Rice
- Attorney General Loretta Lynch
- Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, who became Acting Attorney General in the first weeks of the Trump administration, and who was fired for refusing to defend Trump’s “travel ban” (which the Supreme Court ultimately upheld). (Yates didn’t become involved in the conspiracy until after the election, as indicated by Susan Rice’s memo of January 20, 2017, in which she notes that Obama asked Yates and Comey to stay behind after the end of a meeting of January 5, 2020, presumably so that he could fill them in on the effort to frame General Flynn and discuss how they were to deal with the incoming administration. - Deputy Associate Attorney General Bruce Ohr, a subordinate of Sally Yates and Christopher Steele’s contact in the Department of Justice
- Nelli Ohr, wife of Bruce Ohr, who was hired by Fusion GPS to do opposition research for the Clinton campaign
- FBI Director James Comey. (He was initially an outsider, a nominal Republican in a Democrat administration, and possibly a willing dupe at first; see the pieces by VDH dated August 7, 2018, and Margot Cleveland dated December 20, 2019. But if he was initially a willing dupe with his own agenda, it seems that he had became a full-fledged conspirator by the time of Trump’s inauguration; see the piece by Andrew McCarthy dated May 2, 2020.)
- Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe
- FBI General Counsel James Baker, in charge of FISA requests and leaker of the Steele Dossier (possibly a dupe)
- Peter Strzok, chief of the FBI’s counterintelligence section;
- Lisa Page, the FBI attorney (and Strzok’s paramour), who (with Strzok) was assigned to the Mueller investigation.
The ball got rolling with the production of the “Steele Dossier” – “proof” of Trump’s collusion with Russia – by the Clinton campaign. With the help of the CIA, the “dossier” was then brought to the attentions of eager accomplices at the FBI.
The “dossier” was used to launch a three-pronged attack on Trump and the Trump campaign. The first prong was to infiltrate and spy on the campaign, seeking (a) to compromise campaign officials and (b) learn what “dirt” the campaign had on Clinton. The second prong was to boost Clinton’s candidacy by casting Trump as a dupe of Putin. The third prong was to discredit Trump, should he somehow win the election, in furtherance of the (previously planned) effort to sabotage Trump’s administration should he be elected.
The investigation led by Robert Mueller of the Trump-Russia collusion story was a continuation and expansion of FBI investigation (Crossfire Hurricane) that had been aimed at “proving” a conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia. Mueller’s remit was enlarged to include the possibility that Trump obstructed justice by attempting to interfere with the FBI investigations. The Mueller “investigation” was meant to provide ammunition for Trump’s impeachment and removal from office. That would leave a Republican in the White House, but — as with the forced resignation of Nixon — it would weaken the GOP, cause a “Blue wave” election in 2018, and result in the election of a Democrat president in 2020.
(Aside: The effort to brand Trump as a dupe of Russia is ironic, given the anti-anti-communist history of the Democrat party, Barack Obama’s fecklessness in his dealings with Russia, and his stated willingness to advance Russia’s interests while abandoning traditional European allies. Then there was FDR, who was surrounded and guided by Soviet agents.)
Why was it important to defeat Trump if possible, and to discredit or remove him if — by some quirk of fate — he won the election?
- First, Obama wanted to protect his “legacy”, which included the fraudulent trifecta of Obamacare, the Iran nuclear deal, and the Paris climate accord. The massive increase in the number of federal regulations under Obama was also at risk, along with his tax increase, embrace of Islam, and encouragement of illegal immigration (and millions of potential Democrat voters).
- Second, members of the Obama administration, including Obama himself, were anxious to thwart efforts by the Trump campaign to obtain derogatory information about Hillary Clinton. Such information included, but was not limited to, incriminating e-mails that Russians had retrieved from the illegal private server set up for Clinton’s use. That Obama knew about the private server implicated him in the illegality.
- Third, there was and still is an urgent need to cover up Joe Biden’s central role and financial interest in the influence-peddling scheme fronted by his son Hunter, which couldn’t have escaped Obama’s attention.
The rest is history. The highlights of that history are:
- Two sham impeachments of Trump.
- Relentlessly negative coverage of him by the media outlets that serve as extensions of the Democrat Party.
- A legally dubious indictment of Trump for falsifying business records in connection with “hush money” payments to Stormy Daniels.
- The furor about the so-called insurrection on January 6, 2021, which was a protest that got out of hand due to the combination of Nancy Pelosi’s failure to protect the Capitol and the use of agents provocateurs to stir up the crowd. This trumped-up riot set the stage for an indictment of Trump for attempting to overturn the election of 2020.
- The FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago and the subsequent indictment of Trump for deliberately mishandling classified documents.
- A spurious indictment for Trump’s alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia.
- Add to those legal proceedings, E. Jean Carroll’s convenient suits for battery, sexual harassment, and defamation, 28 years after Trump’s alleged actions. Unsurprisingly, juries in New York City have awarded Ms. Carroll staggering sums of Mr. Trump’s money.
There is a lot more to be said about Obamagate and its ramifications. I have said some of it in “Why the Mar-a-Lago Raid?” and “The Mar-a-Lago Raid and Election 2024“.
The Broader Conspiracy
Targeting specific individuals – like Trump — is just a sideshow. The left is after everyone who opposes its agenda, especially (but not exclusively) Hillary Clinton’s “deplorables” and Joe Biden’s “semi-fascists” — that is, Americans who hold traditional values about the role of government, marriage, sex (there are two), the rule of law, and much more. It would be disastrous (for the left) if its opponents could muster enough electoral support to overwhelm the combination of hard-left voters, squishy centrists, and stuffed ballot boxes (and their electronic equivalents).
The left thrives on control. The left therefore seeks every opportunity to transfer power from civil society and the States to the central government; disproportionately engages in electoral fraud; and seeks to undermine social norms and shape them to their own view of how the world should be. Anything that delays or thwarts the left’s march toward totalitarianism is called a threat to “democracy”. What leftists want is “democratic”; anything else is profoundly wrong or plain evil.
The like of Clinton and Biden are merely the most visible face of the broader conspiracy to take America away from Americans. The conspiracy includes not only most Democrat politicians but also vast portions of government bureaucracies throughout the land; most of the public education indoctrination industry; most institutions of higher learning advanced indoctrination; most media outlets; most “entertainers”; far too many corporate executives and administrator; and, of course, Big Tech (owners, managers, and employees alike).
As these various institutions slid to the left, they formed an informal but tight alliance that moves in lockstep to attain left-wing objectives. Their combined power enables them to advance the left’s agenda by shaping (distorting) perceptions of issues, and controlling the making and enforcement of laws and regulations. The whole thing is a classic Stalinist operation: scapegoat, shame, suppress and prosecute the opposition, and — above all keep — an iron grip on power. (The left loves to project its own feelings and methods onto its opponents.)
The broader conspiracy is an open one, but no less dangerous to liberty than subversion by agents of a foreign power. With the aid of naive and insouciant conservatives, it has been going on since the Progressive Era of the late 1890s and early 1900s, when leftism emerged as a political force in America. Here’s a sample of the left’s causes and “successes”, from the Progressive Era to the present:
- Direct election of U.S. senators, which had been the prerogative of State legislatures).
- Establishment of a national income tax.
- Creation of the Federal Reserve, with its dismal record of causing bubbles and crashes.
- Creation (with the aid of the Supreme Court) of the massive “social insurance” schemes that are bankrupting the nation — Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and the expansion of the latter two by “Obamacare”.
- Other Supreme Court rulings that allowed the central government to regulate almost all economic activity in the country, allowed national-defense secrets to be published freely by the media, and made America safer for criminals.
- Rapid demobilization and disarmament, which have made America vulnerable to its enemies: China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea.
- The Civil Rights Act of 1964, which instigated an epoch of costly and socially divisive racial discrimination in favor of blacks, gender discrimination in favor of women, and (recently) favoritism toward gender-confused persons and predators who abuse that privilege.
- The butchery of tens of millions of unborn children in the name of “privacy” and “women’s rights”, for what (in almost all cases) is the unwillingness to take responsibility for the predictable consequences of a consensual act.
- The hollowing out of America’s industrial base in favor of corporate globalism, and to the advantage of America’s enemies.
- The “climate change” hoax, the price of which is higher energy costs, the widespread use of expensive and inefficient vehicles, subsidized investments in inefficient “renewable” energy sources, and (in Europe, if not America) more cold-weather privations and deaths.
- Unfettered illegal immigration, which breeds crime, burdens public schools and other public facilities, and causes higher taxes for communities subject to large influxes of “migrants”.
- Various measures to make Americans more vulnerable to criminals, ranging from the all-but-complete abolition of the death penalty to “prison reform” (i.e., shorter sentences or none) to “bail reform” (i.e., the elimination of bail so that violent criminals can be let loose on the populace).
- “Globalism”, which hasn’t died (despite some opinions to the contrary), but which lives on in the accommodation of Chinese economic predations and the rapid growth of China’s military might and influence.
- The squandering of tens of billions of dollars and valuable military resources in support of Ukraine because its leader has the goods on Joe Biden.
- The fast-approaching de facto surrender of the U.S. to China and its allies.
